Dance Heginbotham with Yegor Shevtsov, pianist
World Premiere of Dark Theater
2013 BAM Next Wave Festival
Fishman Space, Brooklyn Academy of Music
Brooklyn, NY
For our BAM debut, Dance Heginbotham presents Dark Theater, a world premiere inspired by Dadaist painter Francis Picabia’s provocative 1924 ballet Relâche, set to a mellifluous score by Erik Satie performed by pianist Yegor Shevtsov. Six dancers inhabit a blissfully nonsensical world in which the floor and ceiling are occasionally reversed, the non sequitur is king, and movement perpetually affirms the now.
